Six Acres

Six Acres. Looking to try a new place, a group of friends and I went with a recommendation for Six Acres. Like the evening air, we went in a bit cold (literally and figuratively) not knowing exactly what to expect, but between the welcoming reservation phone call (which we placed only an hour before wanting [...]

Prestons

Prestons. To my own personal surprise and delight I was invited to a new menu sampling at Prestons. Located within the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel, this restaurant is touted as one that fuses west coast, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine. To be perfectly honest, I had my apprehensions as hotel restaurants have garnered a generally negative [...]

Zakkushi Charcoal Grill (Denman)

Zakkushi Charcoal Grill (Denman). Picture this: it is Thursday. A couple of dear, food loving friends are coming in from out of town and looking to grab some dinner the next day. A few suggestions are thrown around for French cuisine and after a some phone calls one quickly realizes that all of the reputable [...]

Biercraft Bistro (Revisted)

Biercraft Bistro. I had visited Biercraft Bistro once before when it was known by it’s old name Stella’s Tap & Tapas Bar and wrote briefly about it then (you can see the old post here). Catching up with old friends, I suggested that we give the newly re-branded place a try. Interestingly enough, there must [...]

Oyster Raw Bar

Oyster Raw Bar I heard about this little hole in the wall about a month ago by chance on twitter. A newly opened raw bar situated in the Old Stock Exchange Building, Oyster is a great, if cramped, space that separates you from the rest of the world with smooth jazz music and dimly lit [...]

Gyoza King Robson

Gyoza King Robson I’ve never been let down by the food or service at Gyoza King on Robson. While I used to split my visits equally between the location on Robson Street and their sister restaurant Nanchuu in Richmond, I now eat at their downtown venue only. I guess it was about two years ago [...]

Toratatsu Japanese Tapas Bistro

Toratatsu Japanese Tapas Bistro One of our group was craving Japanese Izakaya so we decided to try Toratatsu, located mid block on the west side of Denman Street, south of Alberni. Between Bayshore Bike Rentals and Chicago’s Deep Dish Pizza. It is the white awning between the two yellow awnings. Behind the tree. You may [...]

Yew Bar

Yew Bar I’ve only had the pleasure of going to Yew Bar a few times, but on each occasion I enjoyed myself quite a bit. Associated with Yew Restaurant and nestled within the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, Yew Bar is a great place to socialize, grab a drink and/or have a snack. Large seating areas and high [...]

Kamei Royale – Georgia Street

Kamei Royale – Georgia

I went to Kamei Royale on Georgia Street (downtown) recently and like I said earlier, I wasn’t all that impressed. Our group of 6 was there at the behest of one person who insisted that they had a 50% off late night menu, which would be a “good deal”.

Biercraft Bistro (formerly Stella’s Tap & Tapas Bar)

Biercraft Bistro (formerly Stella’s Tap & Tapas Bar)

I got an opportunity to try Stella’s on a Wednesday night and it was still packed to the brim with people. The person who suggested this place said that they’re known for their assortment of imported Belgian beers that aren’t really offered anywhere else. If you enjoy yourself a stronger beer then you can sample some of their 10-14% alcohol content varieties!

Hapa Izakaya – Kitsilano

Hapa Izakaya – Kitsilano. So my buddy was in town and we decided to go for some food/beer at Hapa Izakaya. When I mention going to Hapa I usually mean the one in Kitsilano, located just off Cornwall on Yew Street. In my opinion the place has taken a bit of a slide since it opened. It’s like [...]
